Squad uses EasyAntiCheat as its client-side anti-cheat, backed by server-side enforcement and community reporting. In practice this means the client scans for known cheat signatures and suspicious processes, but detection of subtle aim or ESP use often relies on player reports and server logs, so bans can be inconsistent and delayed.
How Squad Detects Cheating
Squad runs EasyAntiCheat, which monitors the game process for injected code, unauthorised memory access and known cheat binaries. Detection is primarily signature-based, though heuristic checks for abnormal behaviour exist. Bans are account-level: EasyAntiCheat issues a global ban tied to the Steam account, blocking access to all EAC-protected titles. Hardware bans are not standard for Squad, but server admins can maintain their own blacklists. Enforcement is also report-driven; suspicious players are reviewed via server logs and spectator footage, so a clean client does not guarantee safety if you are reported repeatedly.
Setup for Squad: Display and Overlays
Squad performs best in fullscreen mode; borderless windowed can cause input lag and may interfere with overlay rendering. Disable Steam overlay, Discord overlay and any third-party FPS counters, as EasyAntiCheat can flag overlay hooks as suspicious. Secure Boot is not required for Squad, but some server communities enforce it via their own anti-cheat plugins. A spoofer is unnecessary because EAC does not hardware-ban for Squad. Launch the game through Steam with the anti-cheat enabled; bypassing EAC will prevent joining most official servers. Ensure your graphics driver is up to date to avoid crashes that might be mistaken for tampering.
Worthwhile Cheat Features in Squad
Squad's large-scale combined-arms battles reward information and precision. ESP is valuable for spotting enemies through foliage on maps like Gorodok or Yehorivka, but limit it to 200 metres and avoid tracking through solid walls. Aim assist should be subtle: use low smoothing and target only visible enemies, especially when firing the AK-74 or M4A1. No recoil helps with sustained fire from the PKM or M249, but keep it mild to mimic burst control. Avoid features like teleporting or speed hacks, which are obvious in firefights and easily caught on server logs. Vehicle ESP can be useful for spotting BTRs or technicals, but use it sparingly to avoid pre-aiming accusations.
Realistic Risk Areas in Squad
Risk in Squad comes from killcams, which are not present in the base game but may be enabled on some community servers. Spectating by admins is common, and they often review footage after reports. Small lobbies, such as those on Jensen's Range or seeded servers, make anomalies stand out. Statistical outliers, like a sudden jump in kill/death ratio or accuracy, can trigger manual review. Tournaments and organised events use additional anti-cheat measures and strict rule enforcement, so cheats are not advisable there. Report flows are active; players can submit clips to server Discord channels, leading to swift bans even without EAC detection.
