Insurgency: Sandstorm cheat reference and anti-cheat behaviour
Insurgency: Sandstorm uses EasyAntiCheat as its client-side anti-cheat, backed by server-side checks and community reporting. EasyAntiCheat scans running processes and game memory for known cheat signatures and heuristics, and bans are applied at account level, not hardware level. Enforcement is therefore a mix of automated detection and manual review, with the persistent risk falling on the account rather than the machine.
Detection and ban scope
EasyAntiCheat runs as a kernel-level service when Sandstorm launches and monitors the game process for injected modules, unauthorised memory reads and known cheat binaries. Detection triggers a flagged account for review, and confirmed violations result in a permanent account ban tied to the Steam ID. Hardware bans are not used by EasyAntiCheat for this title, so a banned player can create a new account, though the original library and progress are lost. Server-side statistics and player reports supplement the client anti-cheat, and manual review by the developer can follow patterns that automated tools miss.
Setup before launch
Run Sandstorm in fullscreen exclusive mode; borderless windowed can cause EasyAntiCheat to flag overlay hooks more aggressively and adds input latency. Disable Discord, Steam and GeForce Experience overlays before launching, as their injection methods are a common source of false positives with EasyAntiCheat. Secure Boot is not required for Sandstorm on Windows 10 or 11, and no spoofer is needed because bans are account-level. Launch the game through Steam so the EasyAntiCheat service starts correctly, and avoid running any process that reads or writes to the Sandstorm executable.
Useful features in Sandstorm
Sandstorm's low time-to-kill and realistic ballistics make recoil control and aim assist the features that matter most. A subtle aimbot with a high smoothing value and a narrow field of view works well with the MK 18 and M4A1 on maps like Farmhouse and Precinct, where engagements are often at 30 to 80 metres. Recoil compensation tuned to the weapon's actual pattern keeps bursts on target without the snap that looks unnatural in a killcam. ESP limited to enemy outlines within 40 metres is useful on Push and Frontline, but avoid showing objectives or spawn points through walls, as that produces impossible pre-aims.
Where risk concentrates
Sandstorm has no built-in killcam in standard multiplayer, but spectating after death shows first-person aim behaviour to teammates and opponents, and recorded clips are frequently submitted through the in-game report flow and community servers. Small lobbies in Co-op or versus modes with fewer than ten players make statistical outliers obvious, and repeated headshots through smoke on maps like Tideway or Summit attract manual review. Ranked matchmaking and community tournaments add replay review, and EasyAntiCheat's server-side telemetry flags accounts with sustained accuracy and reaction-time anomalies even without a client-side detection.
