ARK: Survival Evolved Cheat Reference and Anti-Cheat Notes
ARK: Survival Evolved uses BattlEye as its client-side anti-cheat, which scans game memory and processes for known cheat signatures and suspicious behaviour. Enforcement is account-level through Steam, so a ban removes access to official servers for that account but does not hardware-ban. Unofficial and private servers rely on server-side admin tools and report-driven moderation instead.
Detection and ban scope in ARK
BattlEye runs alongside ARK on official servers and monitors for injected code, modified game files and known cheat binaries. It reports to Studio Wildcard, who issue account-level bans on Steam, meaning the offending account loses access to official PvE and PvP clusters but the machine itself is not flagged. Private and unofficial servers are not covered by BattlEye by default, so detection there depends entirely on the server owner's configuration and any plugins such as server-side anti-cheat mods. Hardware bans are not standard practice for this title.
Launch setup and conflicting overlays
ARK should be run in fullscreen windowed or exclusive fullscreen depending on whether an overlay is needed; borderless windowed is common for multi-clienting on one machine. BattlEye blocks many overlay injectors, so Discord, GeForce Experience and RivaTuner overlays can cause crashes or false positives and should be disabled before launch. Secure Boot is not required for ARK, and a spoofer is not necessary because bans are account-level and tied to Steam. Launch through Steam with BattlEye enabled only if you intend to join official servers; otherwise disable BattlEye for unofficial play.
Useful features for ARK modes
On official PvP clusters such as The Island, Ragnarok and Extinction, the features that matter are ESP for player and tame detection, aimbot tuned to projectile travel for longneck rifles and bows, and a silent loot ESP for supply drops and cave crates. Player ESP should show nameplates only at close range on Aberration and Valguero to avoid appearing to see through terrain. Tame ESP is more valuable than player ESP for finding high-level rexes and argents. Aimbot should be limited to headshots on stationary targets, with smoothing high enough to look like tracking, because ARK's projectile drop makes instant snaps obvious.
Where risk actually sits in ARK
Official PvP servers have no killcam or replay, but tribe members and allies spectate often, and a suspicious headshot through a window or a perfect blind flick will be reported in tribe chat and on externals. Small-population maps such as Scorched Earth and Genesis make statistical outliers more visible: a player who never misses a bola or always finds hidden bases will attract admin attention. Report flows go through Steam and Wildcard support, and BattlEye bans are permanent per account. Unofficial servers are the higher risk for cheats because owners run their own logs and can ban manually without BattlEye.
